Taco Horton

May 28, 2014 — Jun 30, 2026

Taco Horton, beloved chihuahua and cherished family member, left this world on June 30, 2026, following twelve wonderful years of loyalty and companionship. Born on May 28, 2014, Taco was a small dog with the spirit of a giant—black and brown in color, with white paws, and blessed with a presence that filled every room he entered.

From his very first puppyhood days, Taco made it clear he was not just a pet, but a fiercely loyal protector. To his human mom, Samantha, he was her everything, a steadfast shadow and the warm heart of her home, especially during the four years it was just the two of them. When Samantha’s husband, Jimmy, passed away, Taco stood by her side, a constant source of solace during those lonely days. As life shifted and Samantha met Jim, Taco learned to open his heart further—welcoming Jim and his fur siblings, Tuff and Prissy. Though he had been an only dog for most of his life, Taco gradually adapted, finding new bonds with his canine companions and growing especially close to Jim, who would gently tuck him under a blanket so he would never feel cold.

Taco’s unconditional love radiated strongest in his relationships. He was loyal above all else to Samantha. His mischievous streak was legendary and never failed to coax a smile or a groan from those he loved, whether from his antics marking his territory if anyone upset him, or his stubborn resistance to going indoors—sometimes accompanied by a nip if anyone tried to hurry him along. Yet, these quirks endeared him all the more to those who knew him best—he was their protector, devoted to ensuring his family felt safe and loved.

Fiercely independent and spirited, Taco always thought of himself as far larger than he was—embodying the heart and courage of a 150-pound dog. He took special pride in letting everyone know he’d returned home from an adventure, barking as his grand announcement. He especially treasured the feeling of his family being reunited, expressing his joy with enthusiastic affection, especially when someone he loved had just come back from being away. Taco’s lapses into loving cuddles, nestling into the laps of his humans, were moments they cherished deeply.

There was perhaps nothing Taco adored more than a ride in the truck with the windows down, the wind blowing through his fur. He would leap at the chance to join, waiting by the door in anticipation—and if told he couldn’t ride, he’d stubbornly refuse to get out of the vehicle, always hoping for another chance to feel the freedom of the open road. Chicken jerky and a fresh bowl of milk brought him uncontainable happiness, special treats that always earned him a wagging tail and bright-eyed joy. At night, Taco took comfort sleeping at the foot of the bed or nestled right beside his loved ones, blanket pulled over him, steadfast and loving as ever.

Taco leaves behind his loving humans: his devoted mom Samantha, his stepdad Jim, and his brother Timothy. Among his fur family, Tuff and Prissy mourn the passing of their companion who, once guarded in sharing home, found kinship with them over time. Taco shared an extra-special bond with Timothy—when Timothy visited, Taco stayed glued to his side, not wanting to miss even a moment. If ever Taco realized Timothy was gone, out into the yard he would go, searching for his brother.

Taco's absence leaves a tender space in the hearts of his family, but his spirit—the fierce loyalty, the loving mischief, the zest for adventure—lives on in every memory. His legacy is one of unwavering love and devotion. In the quiet of the night, when the house settles, and the wind rustles outside, those who loved him most will feel him curled at their feet, protecting and loving them just as he always did.

Rest well, Taco. You were truly one of a kind, and you will be forever missed.
