Lucky Compton passed away on October 7, 2026, leaving behind a home and hearts forever changed by his quiet devotion and remarkable spirit. A precious puppy who came into his family’s life as a stray at Midland Animal Control, Lucky’s story was one of rescue, resilience, and deep love. He was a long-haired chihuahua mix, mainly black with white paws and chest, looking as though he were dressed in a little tuxedo.
When Lucky was found, he was starved, very weak, and weighed only 4.5 pounds. There was real uncertainty about whether he would survive, but Lucky showed the strength that would define his life. He pulled through, grew to 8.5 pounds, and went on to give his family 15 wonderful years. In that time, he became far more than a pet. He became a steady, beloved presence whose companionship shaped the rhythm of everyday life.
Lucky was generally a calm dog, except when a squirrel or cat caught his attention. Those moments of excitement were part of the charm that made him so unforgettable. He also developed a tender routine that his family will always treasure: he would jump into a lap, settle on a chest, and gaze into their eyes while having his neck and ears rubbed. It was a look so deep and loving that it felt as if he were staring straight into the heart and soul of the people he loved most.
He had his own special ways of showing joy and affection. Whenever his family came home, Lucky would be there to greet them at the door, proudly carrying his favorite toy in his mouth—a very small stuffed heart-shaped toy that seemed to mean the world to him. That simple, faithful welcome became one of the many everyday gifts he gave so freely.
Lucky shared his home with a family that has loved many dogs over the years. During their marriage, Jim and Tamie cared for 11 dogs, and each one held a special place in their hearts and left them with cherished memories. Even among so much love, Lucky’s bond with them was especially strong. He is survived by his human parents, his mom, Tamie, and his dad, Jim. He also leaves behind Hawkeye and Chloe, the two rescue dogs who remain at home and continue the legacy of love Lucky was part of.
Lucky took a large portion of his family’s hearts and souls with him when he passed, and he left a large portion of his own heart with them in return. He will be missed terribly, remembered lovingly, and carried forward in the countless small moments that made his life so meaningful. Lucky will live in their hearts forever.
