Lady Zayla Joy Alvarado

Aug 12, 2015 — Jul 17, 2026

Lady Zayla Joy, our faithful Golden Retriever and beloved best friend, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. While our hearts are broken by her absence, we are profoundly grateful for the nearly eleven years of unconditional love, unwavering loyalty, and immeasurable joy she brought into our lives.

From the very beginning, Zayla had a heart as golden as her coat. She was calm, gentle, and endlessly loving—a friend to every person and every dog she met. She never outgrew her playful puppy spirit. She greeted each day with excitement, especially breakfast time with Chris, when she would bounce up and down on all four paws like Tigger, making us smile before the day had even begun.

She had countless little quirks that made her unmistakably Zayla. She sat with her front legs elegantly crossed like a proper little lady. Whenever she wanted affection, she would quietly rest her head on one of our laps and look up with the sweetest eyes, asking for nothing more than to be close. She somehow believed rocks were a delicacy, happily finding and chewing them wherever she could. She was also convinced that the kitchen was a place worth inching into, slowly scooting closer and closer until someone lovingly reminded her to back out.

Zayla loved adventures. She knew the moment Lisa started putting on her tennis shoes that it was time for a walk. Unable to contain her excitement, she would stand right in front of her, and if the process took too long, she would simply pick up her own leash and try to walk herself. She loved riding in the car and never wanted to be left behind if the family was going somewhere.

Swimming was one of her favorite activities. Whether it was a lake, a pond, or any body of water she could find, Zayla would happily dive in and swim until she decided she was finished. On her final trip to the lake, she swam until she was completely exhausted, paused only long enough to stand in the shallow water and catch her breath, then turned around and swam some more. It was a perfect reflection of the way she lived—with joy, determination, and a heart that never wanted the adventure to end.

She had a mischievous streak, too. She knew perfectly well that she wasn't allowed on the couch, yet somehow managed to wait until every family member had walked out the door before hopping up to claim her favorite spot.

More than anything, Zayla loved her people, and she somehow had a unique way of loving each of us. She faithfully followed Lisa from room to room, always wanting to be wherever she was, and in her final days, when our hearts were heavy, she instinctively came close to offer comfort one last time.

Alex, even while serving away from home in the Navy, always looked forward to coming home to see Zayla. The two shared a special tradition of playfully wrestling together—something she seemed to reserve just for him—and watching them together was a joy. Victoria shared a quiet, sister-like bond with Zayla, an unspoken understanding that needed no words. Samuel will never forget the day he returned to find half of his freshly frosted cupcakes mysteriously gone and Zayla wearing bright blue frosting across her face. Benjamin loved reading while stretched out beside her, and she would patiently stay with him for as long as he wanted.

She greeted every member of the family with enthusiasm when they came home, making every return feel like the best part of the day. Our home simply felt brighter because she was in it.

Lady Zayla Joy leaves behind her devoted family, all of whom loved her beyond words. She was more than a family pet—she was a constant companion, a faithful friend, a source of comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. She was the joy of our lives and the light in our home. Every time we walked through the front door, she was the first face we hoped to see, and she never disappointed us.

Though our house feels quieter now and our hearts carry an ache that words cannot fully express, we will forever cherish every wagging tail, every walk, every swim, every road trip, every cuddle, every blue-frosted cupcake, and every moment spent together.

Run free, sweet girl. Chase every ball, swim in every lake, and rest in perfect peace until we meet again. You will always be loved, always be missed, and forever remain part of our family's story.
