Lady Gray Garcia

July 1, 2016 — April 29, 2026

Lady Gray Garcia, known affectionately as Lady Grey or simply Lady, left pawprints on our hearts from July 2016 until April 29, 2026. A majestic Cane Corso Mastiff with a dark grey coat that shimmered like storm clouds rolling in, she was a presence both fierce and tender in the lives she touched.

Lady’s journey began as one of six puppies in Tali's first litter, her lineage proudly rooted in the Cane Corso bloodline. My grandmother’s beloved Cane Corso, Tali, brought Lady into the world, with the distinguished male, Cane, as her sire. From the start, Lady was destined to be extraordinary.

With her family and those she loved, Lady was a queen of affection and envy all wrapped into one. Jealous of attention, she demanded head scratches and pets as if they were her royal due—and truly, they were. Anyone lucky enough to administer her favorite scratches knew there was no leaving without proper approval from Lady herself. If she wished for your company, she would nestle at your feet and refuse to budge until her commands for love were met.

Her spirit was playful and loyal, and she loved to run. At Beal Park, while I longboarded, Lady was always just behind me, trotting with measured grace and effortless speed, keeping pace yet holding back to stay close. Her heart was big enough to share those moments with me, even as her own legs yearned to outrun the wind.

Lady adored peanut butter cookies and meat treats, earned through countless “up up,” “shake,” “down,” and “spin” commands. She was clever, mixing obedience with a twinkle of mischief, especially when she wanted attention. That trademark habit of sitting on your feet became legendary—no one was allowed to move unless Lady had been duly acknowledged.

Among the many memories we will hold forever close, one stands out like a glowing ember. At the dog park, frightened by the chaos of barking dogs, Lady accidentally knocked me off my board, leading to x-rays. But her sorrow and guilt were evident—she stayed by my side, protective and steadfast, despite her own fear. That moment captured her loyal soul perfectly.

Lady leaves behind her loving owners Gabriel and Cristal, alongside her pet siblings—her spirited pit bull sister Ducky and gentle Chihuahua sister Honey—who already miss her dearly. She is also survived by several littermates scattered across Midland and Odessa, a broader family that shares her remarkable legacy.

Her way of showing love was profound and tender. When you sat near her, she would place a single paw on you, a silent but insistent request for connection. She seemed to know your feelings, offering comfort with every nuzzle of her cold nose and warm breath.

In our lives, Lady was more than a companion; she was a fierce guardian, a formidable athlete, and a source of pride and joy. In a world often filled with uncertainty, her presence was a comforting constant, a loyal heart that offered courage and unconditional love.

Lady favored the simple pleasures: the grassy expanses of Beal Park, the cool tile floors on hot days, and the soft couch where she could rest her regal head. These were her kingdoms, her places of peace and joy.

Though Lady Gray has crossed the rainbow bridge, her spirit remains woven into the fabric of our lives—a touching reminder of fierce loyalty, gentle love, and the unbreakable bond between human and dog. We hold her memory close, forever grateful for the time she shared with us, our Lady, our friend, our Gray guardian. Rest peacefully, beautiful girl. You were, and always will be, deeply loved.
