Gypsy Rolly Garvin, known to many by a wonderful array of nicknames including Kirby, Ellie, Rolly, Gyper, Roonie, Goober Girl, Momma, and Tootsie, graced our lives from the moment she came into our family in 2017 until her passing on June 18, 2026. A beautiful Boston Terrier/Boxer mix with a spirit larger than life itself, Gypsy was truly the boss of the house and an undeniable beacon of love and joy in our home and hearts.
Gypsy’s journey to our family was marked by resilience and hope. Found wandering the streets, she was taken in by a kind woman who sought her owners before our paths crossed. Despite not needing another dog—especially with three dogs, cats, chickens, and two young children at home—we opened our hearts to her. She arrived at our door pitiful and malnourished, with an unmistakable sign that she had been used as a backyard breeder dog. Yet this gentle soul, who was once so vulnerable, quickly became our unbreakable companion.
She was a dog who loved fiercely and unconditionally. Gypsy’s famous "run, tuck, and roll" brought endless delight, and while she rarely barked, when she did it was unmistakable and full of personality. True to her affectionate nature, she was rarely far from someone’s side, always ready with kisses and enjoying the simple pleasures of rolling on carpet and grass. Her voracious appetite for food and treats, earning her nickname of Kirby, will be fondly remembered by all who shared a meal or snack with her.
Gypsy was more than just a beloved pet; she was family. Her pet parents, Kennith "Bo," Elizabeth "Mandy," and their son Lucas treasured every moment with her. She shared her days with a lively and loving pack of pet siblings—Gee Jo, Reva Larue, Coon cat, Frankie Monster, Harriet, and Chevy—each of whom carried a piece of Gypsy’s exuberant spirit.
Her impact stretched far beyond home. For the last two and a half years of her life, Gypsy became a cherished presence at a Veteran Nursing Home where Mandy worked. She quickly became part of the building’s heart, comforting residents with her warmth and gentle spirit. The countless hours she spent lying beside someone in need, offering solace through difficult times, showed the true depth of her compassionate nature. Outdoors by Mandy’s side, whether gardening or at the smoking section, that's where the quick love and snacks were. Gypsy found joy in the simple fellowship and kindness shared with staff and residents alike.
Despite health challenges in her last 18 months, including multiple surgeries for a recurring mammary tumor, Gypsy’s will to love and be loved never waned. Each time she recovered, she returned to her role with unwavering happiness and grace, inspiring all who witnessed her courage and enthusiasm for life.
On her final day, Gypsy was surrounded by unconditional love, as she visited her favorite residents, basking in the affection she so generously gave. Her presence at the dominoes table, ever hopeful for a pet or a treat, perfectly encapsulated her spirit—joyful, loving, and endlessly giving.
Gypsy’s story is one of survival, love, and extraordinary loyalty. Every day she blessed us was a reminder to be better people and to cherish the light she shone upon all she met. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and joy that will forever live in the hearts of her family, her friends, and the many lives she touched during her precious nine years with us.
Rest in peace, dear Gypsy. You were, and always will be, so deeply loved and treasured. Your laughter in the form of playful rolls and gentle kisses will echo in our hearts forever. Thank you for being our bright light.
