Chico Halwick

Chico, a beloved white chihuahua with a charming brown head and tail, passed away on March 13, 2026. Born on October 4, 2010, Chico graced the lives of those around him for 15 wonderful years, becoming not just a pet but a true friend, companion, and vigilant guardian.

Chico’s tastes were distinctive and endearing. Though he only took to a few toys, he had a peculiar affection for his humans’ Crocs—those well-worn shoes were his preferred playthings and comfort items. His meals mostly consisted of dry dog food, but he had a particular fondness for chicken in all its forms, and the occasional beef. Mini sausages, chicken jerky, and stuffed chew bones were his treasured treats, always devoured with enthusiasm. And if an opportunity arose to snag some human food within reach, Chico would not hesitate—his mischievous spirit was as vibrant as his loyalty.

Fondly remembered is Chico’s loving presence on his humans' laps in their favorite recliner, where he spent countless hours nestled close. There, he found his peace and, no doubt, shared a silent bond of comfort and protection. True to his nature, Chico always positioned himself between his owner and the outside world, steadfastly guarding against any stranger who ventured too close. This small but mighty heart embodied the essence of dedication.

Chico leaves behind his cherished humans: his dad, his mom, his sister and her husband, along with their five sons—each of whom surely carries memories of Chico’s enduring affection and spirited personality. Though his human sister's cats live only a couple of blocks away, Chico’s relationship with them was one of indifferent coexistence, reminding us of the unique blend of friendships and rivalries that enrich family life.

For 15 years, Chico offered unwavering love, companionship, and protection—a gentle soul who transformed ordinary days into treasured moments. Though he is no longer here in body, his spirit lingers in the hearts and homes of his family, forever a guardian and a friend. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and always loved.
